Review: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this last when it first came out. At the time I enjoyed it, but I’m not sure that I got it – I was looking for a sequel to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and although the style is similar, this isn’t/wasn’t it. I picked it up again after the recent TV series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Someone described it as ‘Sherlock on acid’ which sounds about right, not that I’ve ever taken acid to find out! This time around I loved it! Dirk is such a bizarre, irritating, smug, yet intriguing character, that I couldn’t help but be drawn in, and so too with Richard McDuff his hapless sidekick. A totally bonkers book. Read it.
